Week 4
During week 4 students will be looking at different forms of energy and how it can be changed from one form to another.
Week 5
During week 5 students will be investigating light as a form of energy. We will be looking at light reflecting, using mirrors, making shaded shapes. This is a lot of fun as the students will be going out into the sun and"playing with mirrors to see the effect of sunlight. We will also be doing some fun experiments using flashlights and mirrors.
Week 7
During this week we will focus on the following:
How it is possible to see behind you by using mirrors
Which surfaces reflect light the best?
Light changes direction.
There will be an assessment on Wednesday 9 November. Topics assessed will be:
The science lab rules
Energy
Light.

Term 2
Term 2 will be split into two sections. As we will be preparing for our Science Fair in term 3, we will be spending two of our weekly lessons on the Scientific Process. The other two lessons will be spent on our normal investigations.
The topic we will be investigating is plant growth.
The topics of investigation are:
1.1 Seeds
1.2 How seeds grow
1.3 Investigating germination
1.4 What do plants need to grow?
1.5 Plants and light.
The life cycle of flowering plants
2.1 Why plants have flowers
2.2 How seeds are spread
2.3 Other ways seeds are spread
2.4 The parts of a flower
2.5 Pollination
2.6 Investigating pollination
2.7 Plant life cycles

Week of January 22 - January 26
This week we will continue our investigation on how seeds germinate and grow. We will discover what happens to seeds when we leave them in some wet cotton wool. We will also start investigations on what the correct conditions are for seeds to be able to start growing.
We will also continue with investigating the scientific process and how it is used during science investigations. Please be reminded that we will have our annual science week in term 3. During this week each student will have to do a presentation using the scientific process. More information will be given closer to the time, but each student already knows what to do. It will be beneficial to your child if they start looking at some experiments that are easy and useful for them to use.

Flowering plants and the life cycle of plants.
We are currently investigating the life cycle of flowering plants. We have just completed the investigation about seeds, what factors are needed for them to germinate as well as the factors needed for plants to grow.
The students will now look at how seeds are dispersed and how flowers are pollinated. They will have to learn the parts of a flower.
During this term we are also preparing for the science fair. The science week takes place from 7 - 11 May. The science fair takes place on 8 May. Students have started working on their projects. I will give them a step to do each week uni till the completion date in 16 April. They will then do a presentation for their form class. This project counts towards Term 3 assessment marks.
Please ensure that you child keeps up with the planning as no late work will be accepted. I will be adding more information to this site shortly.

We have come to the last stretch of our academic year.
During the last few weeks we will be investigating the following:
STATES OF MATTER:
* Evaporation
* Why Evaporation is useful
* Investigating evaporation
* Evaporation from a solution
* Condensation
* The water cycle
* Boiling
* Melting
* Who invented the temperature scale?
EARTH"S MOVEMENTS
* The Sun, the Earth and the MOON
* Does the Sun move?
* The Earth rotates on its axis
* Sunrise and sunset
* The Earth revolves around the sun
* Exploring the solar system
* Exploring the stars
We will also continue our investigation of the Scientific Process by doing some experiments in class to make sure that our students understand how to do an experiment starting with a question and then following the steps to complete a scientific investigation.
