Aisya Fareehan - Critical Thinker Haneen Ouf - Effective Communicator Mohammad Jaber - Critical Thinker Farida Abdelghaffar - Effective Communicator Well done! March was indeed a busy month filled with fun days and meaningful learning. We covered a range of concepts in Maths and Science: We celebrated Book Week by reading our favourite books every day, and inviting a guest reader to read for us. Ms. Dorota came to visit our classroom, and read "If You Give A Moose A Muffin" by Laura Numeroff. Afterwards the students filled out a mind map to demonstrate "cause and effect" in a story. Thanks Ms. Dorota, we look forward to your next visit! Book Week also transformed the hallway to a magical storyland when teachers decorated their doors. Year 1 to secondary students stopped at the doors to read and ask questions about the books. During "Dental Health Week" the school nurse visited classrooms to teach students about dental care: I would like to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. Thank you for joining us at school. I hope the students are remembering the promise they made in the song to tidy their room and put away their toys! The students made a collage of "Mothers Portraits" to celebrate the special day: Our ESLR winners from the last two assemblies are:
Haneen Ouf - Global Citizen Justin Tully - Global Citizen Abla Friwat - Independent Learner Khaleel Al-Dous - Global Citizen Maya Basalem - Global Citizen Saif Al-Salem - Global Citizen Rashid Al-Muhanadi - Dynamic Achiever Well done! We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday on Thursday, March 2nd. Our focus books for the week were "Fox in Socks" and "The Cat in the Hat". The books are filled with rhyming words for the students to identify, and is read at a steady rhythmic pace. Listen to the stories here:
Our Sports Day was on Monday, 27 February. The students were engaged in various games, and showed a good sense of developing sportsmanship. It was a great day! Try these movement videos at home. The students are familiar with the songs, and enjoy these "brain break" actions:
This week in our Science lessons we are looking at how materials can change when heat and cooling are applied. To show the changes that occur in heating, we followed the simple "Mug Cake" recipe. The activity also provided connection points to other subjects:
Below is the recipe for the students to try at home:
We further explored the effect of heating on material properties by observing the changes when body heat is applied. In this experiment the materials used were: ice cubes, chocolate, flour, cheese, carrot and butter. The students held it in their hands, and were able to identify the changes. Ms. Pasha was our guest reader who came to read "The Polite Elephant" by Richard Scarry and "Caps For Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina. Thank you for coming to visit us and treating us with some good stories Ms. Pasha! As the students said "Please come again next week! We loved it!" The librarian, Mr. Keith, also read a story for us as he does every week. He read the story called "Peanut Butter Homework Sandwiches" by Lisa Broadie Cook. Thank you Mr. Keith, we love listening to your stories each week and Library Time is one of our weekly highlights!
Dear Parents Our week started off with a field trip to the Ice Rink at the Villagio Mall in Doha. Our class, along with Ms. Nelly's class, left Al Khor on the cold and crisp Sunday morning. When we arrived at the Ice Rink the guard and skating coaches were there ready to receive us. The students put on their helmets, gloves, and ice skates; and then the real fun began. At first most of the students were hesitant, but the push-seals helped them to face the challenge of balancing on an ice surface. Here are some pictures of the day: We shared our reflections of the field trip through talk, and then writing about it.
